Next Meeting May 23, 2009

05/16/2009 - Don't miss our next Chapter meeting, Saturday, the 23rd of May. This is our annual casting competition event with food, fun, and prizes. There are also some fine raffle items too. We will meet at Riverside Fly Shop for this event at 9:00am.

March Meeting was a Winner

03/31/2009 - Our March meeting was held on the 28th and we discussed our upcoming outing to the Elk River later in April. Our scheduled presenters had to re-schedule, so we improvised with a repeat of the November furled leader demonstration that so many had missed or asked to see again.

Our next meeting is scheduled for May 23, 2009 and will feature our annual casting competition. Last year Joel Hightower took home the top prize. Let's hope someone can give him a run for the money this year.

New Year, New Officers

01/24/2009 - Our first meeting of the new year started with the election of officers for the Sipsey TU Chapter. By unanimous vote of members present, the following officers were elected. For President - Brandon Jackson, Vice President - Mike Ashbaugh, Treasurer - David Erikson, and Secretary - Joel Hightower. Congratulations to all!

Cub Scout Fishing Rodeo a Big Success!

09/28/2008 - On Saturday, September 27th, 2008 our Sipsey Tailrace Chapter lent assistance to the Etowah District "Hooked on Scouting" fishing rodeo. We held demonstrations on fly tying and casting, helped measure fish the scouts landed, and provided some boat rides. There were over 350 folks in attendance and the kids all fished real hard for their prizes. Thanks to Deep South Outfitters for donating some of the door prizes for the Scouts.

Great Chapter Meeting in July

07/26/2008 - A special thanks goes out to Frank Roden of Rainbow City Auction Fly-Fishing. Frank gave us a dual program with highlights and tips on fishing Utah's Green River. His "average" fish were spectacular and made us all want to be there right now. Frank finished up with a special carp fishing presentation that detailed the conditions to look for, flys to use, and techniques to practice to bring the carp to the boat.

Hoot on the Hooch Happened, and what a Success!

04/27/2008 - We had a terrific day on the Chattahoochee River Saturday. The weather cooperated for most of the day with a short shower as most of us ate lunch under the bridge. Nine anglers participated in a day long fishing frenzy. No dry fly action to speak of, but boy did the nymphs and streamers light 'em up. Chris Scalley and his guide staff from River Through Atlanta put five boats on the water at Abbott's Bridge and proceeded to show us where the fish were. Hats off to Chris and his staff for a job well done and a fantastic outing. More pics on the forum.

APTV shoots Sipsey River

04/12/2008 - In case you missed it, Alabama Public TV aired "Southern View with Leslie Bailey" on Saturday afternoon. Reporter Dave Finger featured fishing on the Sipsey River below Smith Dam on this program. Dave's section is only five minutes long and you can see a copy of it on the forum by clicking here.

Casting Competition a Success

03/30/2008 - The weather held out for our casting competition at the last chapter meeting on March 29th. Prizes were awarded for the top four finishers shown here. Thanks to Boogle Bug Poppers for a great first prize, a box of their poppers and also to Riverside Fly Shop for hosting the competition.
