08/26/2008 - The Sipsey TU chapter has a special opportunity to spend our next meeting with a group of scouts that are getting hooked on fishing. The Etowah District is having a "Hooked On Scouting" fishing rodeo on the 27th of September in Gadsden and has asked for our help. We will provide casting demonstrations and fly tying demos for this event. Last year about 300 scouts plus their friends and family attended the event. This is a great opportunity for us to spread the word about TU and our chapter. I will have more details soon and will ask for your participation and help, so reserve the date now.
07/26/2008 - A special thanks goes out to Frank Roden of Rainbow City Auction Fly-Fishing. Frank gave us a dual program with highlights and tips on fishing Utah's Green River. His "average" fish were spectacular and made us all want to be there right now. Frank finished up with a special carp fishing presentation that detailed the conditions to look for, flys to use, and techniques to practice to bring the carp to the boat.
04/27/2008 - We had a terrific day on the Chattahoochee River Saturday.
The weather cooperated for most of the day with a short
shower as most of us ate lunch under the bridge. Nine
anglers participated in a day long fishing frenzy. No dry
fly action to speak of, but boy did the nymphs and
streamers light 'em up.
Chris Scalley and his guide staff from River Through
Atlanta put five boats on the water at Abbott's Bridge and
proceeded to show us where the fish were. Hats off to Chris
and his staff for a job well done and a fantastic outing.

04/12/2008 - In case you missed it, Alabama Public TV aired "Southern View with Leslie Bailey" on Saturday afternoon. Reporter Dave Finger featured fishing on the Sipsey River below Smith Dam on this program. Dave's section is only five minutes long and you can see a copy of it on the forum by clicking here.
03/30/2008 - The weather held out for our casting competition at the
last chapter meeting on March 29th. Prizes were awarded for
the top four finishers shown here.
Thanks to Boogle Bug Poppers for a great first prize, a box
of their poppers and also to Riverside Fly Shop for hosting
the competition. You can view more photos from the event
